George (Gigi) Stelea Romanian Festival

Saturday, June 2nd, 2018

St. George Romanian Orthodox Church, located at 144 30th Street NW, Canton, Ohio 44709, will be host to the 11th edition of her Romanian Festival, on Saturday, June 2nd.  This event is open to the public. Parking and admission is free.  The festival will occur rain or shine!

Our guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a special taste of our Romanian food and share in our culture.  Come and sample delicious eastern European foods, including mititei, sarmale, mamaliga and chicken tocana.  Take one of the scheduled tours of our church and admire the iconography and learn about our rich liturgy.  Beside music and food, you may visit our Romanian Room and admire some of the artifacts brought from Romania by our ancestors.

There will also be a variety of desserts to sweeten your palate after the variety of delicious meals available inside or at the grill area.  Romanian wines and Timisoreana beer will be available so you will be able to immerse yourself in our traditional food and drink.  Please visit our boutiques.  Major credit cards are accepted.  Don’t stay home, come and experience our Romanian cultural diversity!

George (Gigi) Stelea came to Canton in 1976 and brought with him his love of Romanian music and dance.  He began the Doina Folkloric Ensemble and they have continued honoring his passion by performing all over the US and Canada.  He would be so thrilled that his legacy continues to bring enjoyment to so many each year.  The dancers will wear several different costumes to represent the regions of Romania and their dances will reflect the rich culture of each area.  Children are welcome, and everyone can join in during the public dancing.  Performances will be at 4 PM and 8 PM

The parish of St. George was founded in 1911 and moved to our current location in 1965.  The church is visible from Rt. 62 and the bell tower and architecture is very distinctive to our Cantonians.

Festival Schedule:  Saturday, June 2nd, 11 AM - 11 PM
